The Engagement

Unlike the on your left knee with the right knee up proposal, the Malay engagement is very much different. There’s a ceremony.

The engagement ceremony took place at the bride’s house in the company of close family members and friends, and involves the exchange of engagement rings. Traditionally, both sides will also exchange a set of hantaran or gifts displayed on trays.
